This painting follows the literary theme in my new series of paintings, and the subtle whimsy in this painting is the suggested question mark on the teacups handle. By the time Alice progresses through "Looking Glass Land", she is, quite naturally, full of questions. Important questions for a girl who has seen little which makes sense, that is to say, everything has been non-sensical, in the most amusing way. Tiger Lily is the first flower she spots in a beautiful flower garden belonging to the Red Queen. Alice is desperate to find someone who can understand her. (Aren't we all in search of this?) The first in a series of questions is, "Can all the flowers talk?" Alice speaks this in a whisper to find that yes indeed they can talk. And so begins her adventures in the Garden of Live Flowers, filled with questions, begun by the overture of the graceful Tiger Lily. --Arleta Pech
