Nicholas Reti

Before graduating from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2001, Nicholas Reti honed his talents in Paris and Florence. Both cities offered an incredible history and wealth of art to discover and study.  In France he was introduced to woodblock printing at Monet’s house in Giverny and to the work of painter John Singer Sargent at the American Museum there.  In Italy the work of Fra Angelico, Pontormo, Piero Della Francesca and the mountains of the Italian Alps offered endless sources of inspiration.  His overseas studies culminated in an exhibition in Venice in 2001.  Two years later he returned to Colorado to photograph and paint the mountain vistas that dominate his compositions. Recently Reti received First place recognition at the Denver High Plein Air Art Festival and at the 2007 Evergreen Paint, Shoot, Sculpt event. His work uses alluring spatial compositions and color in a naturalistic style, while often flirting with abstraction. His paintings are created using a combination of plein air painting and work in the studio from photography and sketches.

Photography is an important influence on Reti’s work.  In 2004 he  was asked to photograph the First Family for the Republican National Committee of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.  In the weeks leading up to the election the President and his family made over five campaign stops to the state. Several photographs were selected for the “Our Land” photography exhibition at Flash gallery in Belmar, Colo. In 2007 Reti opened two portrait studios in Centennial and Littleton, Colo.

Nicholas has also published a childrens book entitled “Ann and Liv Cross Antarctica” commemorating Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen’s historic crossing of Antarctica. During the expedition he was commissioned to create a painting used as an educational tool in 30,000 schools reaching over 3 million students and 20 million people world wide via the internet and international press coverage.

Reti lives in Denver, Colo.  He often returns to Italy, Oregon and the island of Molokai’i. He has shown his work in Minnesota, Wyoming, Colorado and Italy.
