Joshua Been believes his oil paintings are an account of his life’s journey – each one being a visual page in his personal journal. As he finds his way through the beauty of his world, he constantly strives to balance the elusive quality in painting. The juncture where the impression of a place is rendered tightly enough to recognize, but the brushwork remains loose enough that the viewer can use their own imaginative faculties to finish the piece in their own unique way. Through design, his paintings are best viewed with a little distance while the textures and bravura in the brushstrokes bring you in for a closer look. ‘It is a moment in time that I’m after, and I only try to do the elegant randomness of the universe justice in my humble attempt to capture it.
