MICHAEL DOWLING : ONE MAN SHOW
Oct 21 - Nov 9, 2005 -- Opening Reception: Friday, Oct 21, 5-9pm
Abend Gallery is proud to present a One-Man show featuring the work of Michael Dowling. Dowling’s paintings are sophisticated and challenging; his dramatic landscapes surpass their primary role as representations of actual places and assume that of visual metaphor. Michael is an award winning painter and highly recognized throughout the Denver metro area and in Tuscany, Italy. Michael Dowling received his BFA degree from the University of Denver. He has also studied at Scoala Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy, as well as engaged in private studies in Tuscany, Italy. |

JILL SOUKUP : ONE-WOMAN SHOW
Oct 14 - Nov 5, 2005 -- Opening Reception: Friday, Oct 14, 5-9pm
Soukup’s paintings reveal her intricate process of deconstructing and reforming shapes. Rather than concerning herself with the larger picture, she first investigates the smallest, most basic elements of the form. Only after she intimately knows the parts does she rebuild, reconstruct and reconnect the shapes with the whole. The Colorado artist’s paintings are distinguished by her visual and artistic sophistication as well as her youthful curiosity toward life.

MICHELLE TORREZ: ONE-WOMAN SHOW
Sept 16 - Oct 6, 2005 -- Opening Reception: Friday, Sept 16, 5-9pm
Abend Gallery is proud to exhibit the work of Michelle Torrez during her One-Woman show in September. The art of the Denver native reveals the spontaneity and elegance of human expression through the rendering of unconventional moments and gestures. Although her figures often appear unaware of the viewer, Torrez’s use of vibrant colors and energetic brushstrokes animate the figures making them seem familiar and intimate. She sees through the reality of the moment, to the metaphor of the moment, and captures another story communicating just beyond the depicted scene.

SANDRA PRATT: ONE WOMAN SHOW
July 29 - Aug 20, 2005, Opening Reception: Friday, July 29 from 5-9pm
Pratt's dramatic landscapes are romantic and smoky, but are also lonely and introspective. Pratt builds up layers of color and texture and focuses on simplicity of form resulting in a deeply expressive quality in each piece.

IN THE PAINTERLY STYLE
Aug 12 - Sept 3, 2005 -- Opening Reception: Friday, Aug 12, 5 - 9pm.
This August Abend Gallery presents the work of local and regional painters each creating works in what is deemed the “painterly style”. An artist who embraces this mode of expression emphasizes not the contours, boundaries, or separation of things, but rather accentuates mass and volume. The painterly style utilizes color to render forms instead of line. As opposed to the classical or linear style, the painterly mode is concerned not with the solidity and fixity of objects, but rather their transient qualities as objects merge and are constantly in motion.
Participating Artists: Jim Beckner, Raj Chaudhuri, Marin Dobson, Carol Heitz, Mikael Olson, Jen Omaitz, Sandra Pratt, Hannah Shook, Cheryl St John, Ken Valastro and Tiffany Williams |

BEAUTY UNBOUND
Opening Reception: Friday, June 3 from 5 - 9pm
“The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found, it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it.” – Gustave Corbet
During the month of June, Abend Gallery embraces the aesthetic of “beauty” in art. Simultaneously a sensory and cerebral experience, the debate on what is beauty and is it required in the creation and appreciation of art is an ever increasing debate in contemporary art. In the “Beauty Embraced” show, participating artists engage, render, define, challenge and expose the nature and role of beauty.
Participating Artists: Deborah Bays, Dan Beck, Robert Coombs,
Scott Gleeson, Bruce A Gomez, Aleksey and Olga Ivanov,
